Honest Royal Mail Workers Let down by 2nd Class Government - Bruce4.23.17pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 6th May 2004 Speaking during Trade and Industry questions in the House of Commons today Gordon Liberal Democrat MP, Malcolm Bruce, voiced his support for the thousands of hard working Royal Mail employees who have been let down by the government and a small number of dishonest workers. Mr Bruce questioned Secretary of State Patricia Hewitt over Government policy and asked what powers and investment will be granted to the Royal Mail so it is able to provide the first class service the country deserves. Mr Bruce said " The Royal Mail is operating with one hand tied behind its back and continues to fail to meet Government set targets. Being fined for delivery failures will further burden the increasingly troubled service. "As the government have failed to improve the quality of the Royal Mail it is the responsibility of the Liberal democrats to speak on behalf of a bitter electorate and maintain pressure. The government will have to address the problem and not rely on the issue falling down the agenda."
