Gordon Liberal Democrat MP Malcolm Bruce has given his backing to the RNID's call for local authorities to ensure better provision of lifesaving community equipment. RNID research shows that too many deaf and hard of hearing people aren't getting the full range of equipment they need to live safely and independently at home.

Mr Bruce said:

"Too many deaf and hard of hearing people are not being provided with essential equipment such as flashing and vibrating smoke detectors, amplified telephones, vibrating baby alarms and flashing doorbells."

The RNID in partnership with the RNIB and the British Red Cross, have set up a new online store which seeks to deliver major improvements in getting community equipment to thousands of disabled people. The website can be accessed at www.communityequipment.com .
