Malcolm Bruce is urging to the Government to oppose the recent resumption of international whaling

Local MP Malcolm Bruce is adding his name to those calling on the government to take a tough stance against the resumption of commercial whaling.

Commenting, the Gordon MP who has written again to the Government Department responsible for animal welfare to raise this issue, said:

"I was pleased to see the government take a strong anti-whaling stance at the International Whaling Commission meeting last year.

"However, this tough talk will count for little if it is not backed up by determined and decisive action.

"It is imperative that the British government uses what international clout it has to ensure other nations support it in maintaining the international moratorium on commercial whaling.

"Commercial whaling is cruel and unnecessary. The huge volume of correspondence I have received on this subject demonstrates the strength of feeling amongst my constituents who share this view and I call on the Government not to retreat on this issue."
