Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce has paid tribute to the long serving Aberdeen city councillor John Porter, who has died unexpectedly from a heart attack.

The leader of the Conservative group twice stood against Mr Bruce for the Gordon parliamentary seat.

The Gordon MP commented:

"John Porter will be remembered as a doughty fighter for his cause over the course of many years."

"Though he was never afraid to express himself forcefully, he could also be charming and entertaining."

"I have no doubt that the city will sorely miss his experience and skill in the years to come."
