No 10 Downing Street

Gordon Brown is to move into No 10 officially on 27th June

Commenting on Gordon Brown who is to take office as Prime Minister later today (Wednesday), Scottish Liberal Democrat President, Malcolm Bruce MP said:

"Gordon Brown can only hope his time in No. 10 is more successful than the last Scottish Prime Minister to hold the office."

"The new Prime Minister's immediate challenge is an SNP minority administration in Edinburgh seeking to provoke confrontation to destroy the Union. He should resist the temptation to respond in kind.

"He should also recognise that the Union needs continual reform if it is to survive and he should respond positively to the Liberal Democrat proposal to set up a new Constitutional Convention."
