Glasgow 2014

Mr Bruce has supported the Glasgow Commonwealth games win and calls on the Games to be for the whole of Scotland

Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce has welcomed the success of Glasgow's bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games - and expressed his hope that this will lead to better sports facilities in the north east.

Commenting, Mr Bruce said:

"I welcome the announcement that Glasgow will host the Commonwealth Games in 2014. This a vindication of the hard work and effort so many people have put in, and I am sure north-east residents will join me in congratulating Glasgow on its success.

"The Scottish Government now has to show that this will be a Games for the whole of Scotland. It should commit to investing in sporting facilities in the north east, including a 50 metre swimming pool and gymnastics facilities. Communities around the country should see the benefits that accrue from hosting the Games in Glasgow.

"The Scottish Government has a chance to create a golden legacy, not just for athletes of this generation, but for the health and wellbeing of generations to come. I hope that it takes this opportunity.
