Glasgow success should strengthen case for North-East facilities - Bruce6.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 9th Nov 2007
Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce has welcomed the success of Glasgow's bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games - and expressed his hope that this will lead to better sports facilities in the north east. Commenting, Mr Bruce said: "I welcome the announcement that Glasgow will host the Commonwealth Games in 2014. This a vindication of the hard work and effort so many people have put in, and I am sure north-east residents will join me in congratulating Glasgow on its success. "The Scottish Government now has to show that this will be a Games for the whole of Scotland. It should commit to investing in sporting facilities in the north east, including a 50 metre swimming pool and gymnastics facilities. Communities around the country should see the benefits that accrue from hosting the Games in Glasgow. "The Scottish Government has a chance to create a golden legacy, not just for athletes of this generation, but for the health and wellbeing of generations to come. I hope that it takes this opportunity. ENDS
