Local MP appalled at cancellation of Aberdeen - Gatwick services by BA12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 27th Nov 2007
The Rt Hon Malcolm Bruce MP has today written to Willie Walsh, Chief Executive of BA to condemn their plans for the cancellation of the Gatwick service. In his letter Mr Bruce says, "This seems to have been done with no consultation with the users of the service, and the airline does not seem to recognise how important the service is to people in the North East who need to fly to Gatwick in order to connect with other flights - many of which are operated by BA. "I had a meeting with two of your colleagues just a month ago about the service between Aberdeen and London and they made no mention of any plans to cease this route. "Until recently BA had 12 flights every weekday between London and Aberdeen. One flight to Heathrow and Gatwick per day has already been dropped and now you say that the service will be only 7 flights a day. "How long will it be before you decide to cancel the Aberdeen - London route altogether?" Mr Bruce added, "In recent months and years BA has treated many of it's passengers from the North East with disdain. The vast of majority of flights that I have taken have been delayed and there are very few apologies from the airline that most people rely on to get to London for either business or leisure travel" Mr Bruce, who is the MP for the airport, has asked for an urgent meeting with Mr Walsh to discuss this matter.
