Trump- Find fast track solution MP calls on council

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 3rd Dec 2007

Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce has called on Aberdeenshire Council to look urgently at their procedures to ensure the Trump Organisation's Menie Park development is debated by the full council and with full consultation throughout the North East.

Following discussions Mr Bruce had over the weekend with senior representatives of the Council and the Trump Organisation the Gordon MP has written to the council's leader Councillor Anne Robertson urging the council to "adopt new rules and procedures appropriate to significant applications and giving the final decision to all members of the council as a matter of urgency".

He says he does not wish to "impugn the integrity of those councillors who have voted against the application nor the diligence with which they have evaluated the issue."

He concludes however that "This decision is too important to have been decided by a sub committee. The council must find a way of unlocking the whole council view and fast.

"A council whose predecessors successfully managed the North Sea oil boom and all its pressures should not be wrong footed by a golf development."
