No justification for ID Cards says Bruce

1.28.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 6th Mar 2008

Following the Home Secretary's announcement on a revised timetable for the introduction of ID cards, Gordon MP, Malcolm Bruce has criticised the Government's scheme, calling it "another costly Government IT experiment waiting to go wrong."

ID Card

Mr Bruce has criticised the ID card scheme, arguing that public faith in the Government's ability to store personal information has been severely undermined.

Malcolm Bruce said:

"The Government has shown its inability in implementing national database systems on a number of occasions and this has all the hallmarks of another failed scheme.

"Given the recent blunders by the Government including losing millions of people's personal information, it is little wonder that widespread public support has never materialised for these proposals that the Home Secretary is now trying to coerce the public to signing up through the back-door."
