BRUCE BACKS STONEYWOOD PARENTS2.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 29th Apr 2008 Gordon MP, Malcolm Bruce, has given his support to proposals put forward by parents at closure threatened Stoneywood Primary School, in his Gordon constituency. In a letter to Aberdeen City Council Mr Bruce points out that the parents proposals for rezoning would provide balanced rolls for Dyce, Stoneywood, and the proposed new school if Bucksburn and Newhills schools are merged. "The parents' proposals offer flexibility, room for expansion to meet further developments on the Rowett and Craibstone sites and greater safety by eliminating the need for children to cross the A96," says Mr Bruce. He points out that the condition of Stoneywood School is good, maintenance and running costs at or below average and the overall performance of the school is good. He says the parents understand the need to rationalise the schools estate but believe they can make a good case within the framework of the council's objectives. Mr Bruce concludes by asking the council to keep him informed of developing plans for the schools in his constituency including Middleton Park and Glashieburn in the Bridge of Don as well as Bucksburn and Newhills whose catchments serve the parts of Bucksburn he represents.
